Relatively New Procedure...

So I got a letter today summing everything up and clarifying a few things, not an appointment just the information.

The one thing that stuck out to me was the two types of valve that can be used in the "transcatheter pulmonary valve replacement". One is called 'The Edwards valve' and it is a manufactured valve within a stainless steel stent. The other is 'The Medtronic Melody valve' (They sound like suites at a retreat to me) and this valve comes from a large vein from the neck of a cow and are very similar to human valves. Now my problem is that it says "The choice of valve is based on anatomical findings from assessment of your heart". This basically means that you don't have a choice as to what kind of valve you get. So what?

Well patients who are given the manufactured 'Edwards' valve most likely have to remain on a type of blood thinner for the remainder of their lives - a small price to pay for your life I know. BUT women on this medication cannot have children.

So my worry is not the discomfort, bruising, possible surgical intervention, stent fractures, compression of a coronary artery, stent embolisation, conduit rupture, tamponade, endocarditis, death or any of the still unknown risks and complications or the relatively new procedure I will be being prepped for in a month or so.

No. My only concern is that, at 22 years old, will the choice of natural motherhood be taken away from me in exchange for my life?

And if it is... As someone who has only ever wanted to be a mother, what do I do? What do I do when the thing that will be keeping me alive physically, will be the thing killing me emotionally?
